Course Outline: Unlike Creative Writing, this class will focus on your use of different genres - such as Prose, Argumentative, Pro/Con, Legal just to name a few. We will also focus on the correct usage of punctuation, spelling and grammar, and you will have homework!

Beginners Art in Different Mediums: Saturday afternoons

Mediums Needed:
Conte crayons in black, white and sanguine (Conte a Paris)
Black Chinese ink (any brand)
Soft Pastels, 12 colour set (any brand)
Acrylic paint in black and white (small tubes)
Charcoal, two sticks
Additional colours of acrylic paint are welcomed, as well as any other mediums you would like to explore on a private basis.

Canvas Needed: Newsprint, fifteen sheets (size is at your discretion)
Mayfair paper, ten sheets
Textured paper, five sheets
Stretched and prepared canvas, one (size is your discretion)
A note on the textured paper... I've left this up to you. Price of good artist quality paper varies widely. Buy what you can afford. Please try at least two different types of textured paper.

Additional Tools:
Purchase at least three paint brushes of varying sizes, both round and square heads, both natural bristle and nylon bristle.
One palette, either white or transparent.
Two bulldog clips (for attaching your paper to your flat work surface).
One exacto knife for sharpening your crayons.
Empty plastic or glass jars for cleaning your brushes.

As well, students will require access to either a digital camera or scanner. Many schools and libraries allow use of their equiptment. Students do NOT have to own either one of these items, but do need to have access to one or the other in order for me to grade their work.

Course Outline: An overview of various art mediums and their proper application. There is an artist in everyone, here's your chance to help find your inner artist.
